"Spiritual position will be maintained only according to external symbols... a person's propriety will be questioned if he does not possess money, and hypocrisy (dambha) will be accepted as a virtue."
Macauliffe, Trumpp, and Pincott utilized their "external symbols" as scholars to camouflage structural sabotage. The Sanskrit term 'Pāṇḍitye' (scholarship) here is warned to be 'Cāpalaṃ' (manipulative/frivolous words).
